Mike Smith
Industry Principal
Mike Smith is the Industry Principal in the Global Utilities Practice.
Mike brings a wealth of experience to this role. With over 30 years in the utility and energy industry, Mike has led organizations and initiatives in the areas of market research and analysis, publications, and events…all focused on utility/energy technology segments and most notably on analytics. Prior to joining SAS, Mike co-founded and led the Utility Analytics Institute, the leading organization committed to the advancement of analytics in the utility industry. Mike has a BA in Economics from San Jose State University, is currently enrolled in the MA in Leadership program at William Jessup University, and is a veteran of the US Army where he was a Captain in the Infantry.
Mike currently serves as the Chair of the Global Utility Industry Council and was also responsible for the creation of the Utility Advisory Board which under his leadership has grown to over 40 utilities from eight countries and 13 partner organizations including Cisco, Accenture, Intel, Dell, and HP-E.
