Welcome to this year's second SAS FANS User Event on 2nd July in London.

Join our SAS Experts, Peter Hobart and Stuart Rogers, for an exciting agenda covering programming, performance, and authentication. Unlock the power of your CAS server and experience productivity gains through proc CAS. You’ll also learn how to simplify and streamline your authentication setup with SAS Viya.

4 pm – 4:15 pm: Welcome

4:15 pm – 4:45 pm: Proc CAS and CAS actions; maximising the value of your SAS Cloud Analytic Services (Peter Hobart, SAS Customer Success)

In this session, we will cover everything the CAS server does is a CAS action.:

  • CAS vs. the compute server in SAS Viya
  • What is a CAS action and a CAS action set?
  • A simple example (simple.summary)
  • simple.summary vs. legacy code (proc means)
  • Discovering what CAS actions have been called by legacy code - the listhistory option
  • Proc CAS vs. Proc Casutil
  • Finding the syntax to call CAS actions from other languages
    • The gateway.runlang action – calling other languages from CAS
    • The datastep.runcode action – running a data step within CAS
  • Some useful actions to explore
  • Further resources and key takeaways

4:45 pm – 5 pm: Break

5 pm – 5:30 pm: Single Sign-On into and out from SAS Viya with Microsoft Entra ID (Stuart Rogers, SAS Architecture & Security Lead)
SAS Viya supports Kerberos, LDAP, OpenID Connect, and SAML for authentication. This session will discuss using OpenID Connect with Microsoft Entra ID to enable single sign-on to SAS Viya and then from SAS Viya to your data sources.

5:30 pm – 7 pm: Pizza, drinks and Networking
We finish the day by networking over pizza and drinks! Connect with like-minded professionals, share experiences, and strengthen your connections.

Peter Hobart
Sr Customer Success Manager, SAS

Peter has worked at SAS for 26 years in customer support, education, architecture, and customer success. Before joining SAS, Peter was the IT manager for a significant brewery's research laboratory. Peter has written several SAS courses and questions for the SAS certification exams but spends most of his time answering customer questions and presenting at customer events. Peter is a certified SAS advanced programmer, data integration developer, and SAS platform administrator. He is currently learning the new features of SAS Viya 4.  

Stuart Rogers
Architecture and Security Lead, SAS

Stuart has worked for SAS for 18 years in Customer Support and Technical Enablement. Stuart focuses on creating enablement content for Customers, Partners, and SAS Staff on Architecture and Security.
