In a world growing increasingly hesitant about the benefits of globalization, the management of national borders is changing rapidly and becoming increasingly complex.
The control of borders is a top priority for every nation. In recent years, this task has become more complex as authorities find themselves dealing with multiple challenges. A steadily increasing demand for border crossings was interrupted by the global Covid-19 pandemic, then restarted due to the economic pressures of lockdowns.
This paper examines the challenges facing border control authorities of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states, the need for rapid and efficient clearance of international passengers while maintaining security, the solutions available (including their drawbacks), and the expected outcomes.
