Generative AI (GenAI) technology is gaining momentum rapidly, not just in businesses and government agencies, but also among those trying to defraud them. Tax agencies have potentially valuable uses of GenAI in process productivity, taxpayer service, and staying ahead of fraudsters by augmenting fraud detection and threat simulation. Given the new and sometimes uneven capabilities of GenAI, agencies should be approaching it with both purpose and caution.
